Two of Netflix’s big hitters are joining forces to star in the dark comedy, Do Revenge. Maya Hawke and Camila Mendes are joining an exciting young cast for the new movie and here is everything you need to know.
Do Revenge Plot
Netflix’s official synopsis of Do Revenge is:
After a clandestine meet-cute, Drea (Alpha, fallen it girl) and Eleanor (beta, new alt girl) team up to go after each other’s tormentors. Do Revenge is a subverted Hitchcock-in dark comedy featuring the scariest protagonists of all: teenage girls.
Do Revenge is directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who brought us the 2019 smash hit rom-com Someone Great. In an interview with Elle, Robinson said she is a fan of 90’s hits like Cruel Intentions and 10 Things I Hate About You, which has influenced her new film.
She added: ’There are different points where everyone’s the villain and everyone’s the hero in the film. And that is so much of what growing up is. I wanted to make something that paints with all the colours of adolescence.’
Cast
Riverdale’s Camila Mendes and Stranger Things’ Maya Hawke are the two leads in this film. Mendes will play Drea and Hawke is set to portray Eleanor.
Director Robinson told Elle that she ‘literally didn’t even finish’ Mendes’ audition tape. She paused it ‘maybe five seconds in… and called Peter Cron and [producer]Anthony Bregman and said “We have Drea”.’
She adds that she was immediatley sold on Hawke as Eleanor and even switched the location of the movie so that the filming schedule would not clash with Hawke’s Stranger Things filming.
Other cast memebers include:
Austin Abrams (Euphoria), Alisha Boe (13 Reasons Why), Rish Shah (Ms. Marvel), Maia Reficco (Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin) and Paris Berelc (Alexa&Katie).
The film also includes a cameo by Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner.
Release date
Do Revenge is set to be released on 16 September 2022 exclusively on Netflix.
