My Favourite Bars To Visit In Chester

Domenica Smithies February 21, 2022

Chester has many beautiful places to see, including for food and drink. As a previous student, I have experience visiting pretty much every bar and pub in the whole of the city. But here are some of my favourite, if you ever decide to visit or are planning on moving there for your studies.

Popcorn Bar

Popcorn Bar Chester is a beautiful, modern and bright space for you to drink cocktails, eat a lovely meal and have a great evening with your flatmates, partner or family. It has only been open for a few years, so it is super stylish and modern; very Instagrammable! The prices are very fair, considering how posh some of their items are. It is situated near the Roman amphitheater, and opposite two of Chester’s nightclubs, so it makes a great spot for pre-drinking.

Palm Cocktail Bar

Palm, self described as a pink paradise, is a beautifully decorated little bar situated in the centre of Chester. If you love everything pretty and pink, this is the place for you. The walls are decorated with hundreds of beautiful pink and purple flowers, which makes for a super photogenic spot. Their cocktails are beautiful and delicious, my personal favourite is the Lavender Unicorn. They also have an amazing shot called the lemon meringue, which tastes exactly like one! Palm has super friendly staff, and can offer you cocktails tailored specifically to your taste and preferences. Palm offers a wide range of drinking and eating offers and options for great and affordable prices, such as bottomless brunch, afternoon teas and more. It truly is a beautiful place inside and out – literally! Highly recommended.

The Church

An actual old Church converted into a bar and restaurant, The Church is a great spot for beers and cocktails in a beautiful setting. Their 2 for 1 cocktails are to die for, and aren’t super expensive for what they are. They do a beautiful roast every Sunday, and have a lovely space outside for the summer. The Church is so big, and is very popular, often a good sign for a bar! Its beautiful setting makes you feel very at peace when you are sat with your favourite drink in their extra large booths, which makes going out with all your flatmates even more of a breeze. There is something for everyone at The Church, another great spot.

Kuckoo

This one is super quirky. Kuckoo is a little bar which is almost completely hidden from view. It’s dark inside asides from red lights, which sounds weird but is actually super cool. It is also situated in the center in the Chester, so although it will be hard to spot, it is very close to everything else. They sell some beautiful drinks and cocktails, such as a 10 dollar milkshake, which comes with a donut on top. Another very photogenic bar to visit, Kuckoo will make you smile with their clever drinks and their friendly staff. You can hire out their bottom floor bar, which makes for a great birthday celebration with friends and family. Here, you can also sign up for a DIY cocktail-making masterclass which makes a great idea for a date or a gift for a loved one.
