My Favourite Ways To Break Up Studying

Sometimes, writing assignments and dealing with your coursework can be incredibly daunting and stressful. It is easy to forget to look after yourself within the fog of all your lectures and modules, and when you know you have a lot of work to do. Let’s face it, the feeling of finishing an assignment is great. But, sometimes, it is much better for you to take your time and ensure that both your physical and mental health doesn’t take a tumble when you’re trying to get those first class marks. Here is how I was able to break up my studying.

Food

It’s easy when you are working to forget about the basics. As someone who loves food, this wasn’t a habit I wanted to get into. So, whenever I started studying or writing an assignment, I would set certain times to stop for lunch or dinner. This was a good way to get me to stop for a little while – especially when I needed to – to refuel or just give my head a break. Sometimes, cooking yourself a nice meal is something to look forward to, and in this context is no exception! Planning on making yourself a nice meal, whilst or before you start studying, is a great way to give yourself some much needed downtime.

Going for a walk

Sometimes, to refresh myself after a few hours of reading and writing, there was nothing more satisfying than going for a nice long walk. Getting fresh air and exercise is important when it comes to maintaining your mental and physical health. When your assignments are impending, it can be easy for it to decline. Don’t let your studies make you feel as though you can’t enjoy some time to yourself or the little things that make you feel good. Getting some exercise each day can work wonders for your body and mind. If you’ve been studying for a few hours, shut your laptop, put your coat on and get yourself some fresh air.

Human contact

Spending a lot of time working can sometimes turn you into an unsociable person. This is completely understandable, given the work load that some courses have. However, most of the time, you shouldn’t let your work stop you from doing things with your friends and flatmates. You can always make space for some social time with your buddies, which is also great for your mental health.

Don’t deny yourself anything that makes you feel happy or relaxed just because you have work to do. If you plan out what you need to do, you can make time for breaks and time away from your studies. Having a catch up or a good laugh with friends can make things much easier for you, mentally and physically. Don’t be afraid to have a cheeky night out or day with your loved ones to recharge your batteries. Alternatively, don’t be afraid to work alongside your friends. That way you can have some company while getting important things done.
