Elliot Page’s transition will be acknowledged in season 3 of Netflix’s hit series The Umbrella Academy, as confirmed by the actor himself.
Page took to Twitter on Tuesday, March 29, to announce he would be taking on the role of ‘Viktor Hargreeves’ in the upcoming highly-anticipated series which is due to hit the streaming site on June 22.
Acknowledging Page’s Transition
The 35-year-old actor who played Number Seven/Vanya Hargreeves, will now be Viktor Hargreeves in the supernatural show created by My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way – who also uses the pronouns he/they.
Netflix also posted on its LGBTQ+ page, Most, how good it feels to share the announcement with the world – as well as sharing the news on Netflix’s main Twitter account.
Page came out as transgender in December 2020 and announced they would go by the pronouns he/they. Page wrote in his initial post about the transition: ‘I love that I am trans. And I love that I am queer. And the more I hold myself close and fully embrace who I am, the more I dream, the more my heart grows and the more I thrive.’
What We Know about Season 3
The new series is set to hit the streaming site on June 22 and will pick up where season two left off – the siblings facing off against the Sparrow Academy.
On March 13 Netflix dropped a teaser of the new season which gave audiences a quick look at the Sparrow Academy. The Sparrow Academy came about after the Hargreeves gang clearly changed their future when they were stuck in the 1960s and spoke to their adoptive father.
The teaser, set to the backdrop of dramatic instrumental music, ends with a black screen which reads: ‘The sparrows have landed.’
At the very end of the season audiences were shown, for the first time, the establishment of the Sparrow Academy but were also shown the thought-to-be-deceased Reginald Hargreeves alive and well.
The Netflix synopsis for season 3 reads: ‘After putting a stop to 1963’s doomsday, the Umbrella Academy return home to the present, convinced they prevented the initial apocalypse and fixed this godforsaken timeline once and for all. But after a brief moment of celebration, they realize things aren’t exactly (okay, not at all) how they left them.
‘Enter the Sparrow Academy. Smart, stylish, and about as warm as a sea of icebergs, the Sparrows immediately clash with the Umbrellas in a violent face-off that turns out to be the least of everyone’s concerns.
‘Navigating challenges, losses, and surprises of their own – and dealing with an unidentified destructive entity wreaking havoc in the Universe (something they may have caused) – now all they need to do is convince Dad’s new and possibly better family to help them put right what their arrival made wrong.
‘Will they find a way back to their pre-apocalyptic lives? Or is this new world about to reveal more than just a hiccup in the timeline?’
However, besides the news Page’s character would transition to Viktor, information about the upcoming season is being kept tightly under wraps.
