Florence Pugh, the star of upcoming movie Oppenheimer is rumoured to be joining the cast of the upcoming Dune sequel and below you can find everything you need to know about that film. But fans have also been interested in the biopic Pugh will be part of as she continues to show her versatility.
What we know about the Oppenheimer movie so far
It was announced in December 2021 that the 26-year-old actor would play the role of ‘Jean Tatlock’ in the upcoming biographical Christopher Nolan thriller based on American Prometheus; a biography of J. Robert Oppenheimer.
The movie has an A-list cast, with Pugh joined by the likes of Rami Malek, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr, Cillian Murphy and Matt Damon. Those names will make for one hell of a film poster.
Murphy and Blunt will play the leads, with Pugh joining an incredible supporting cast.
J. Robert Oppenheimer ran the Manhattan Project which ultimately led to the creation of the atomic bomb and it will be interesting to see how Murphy plays the role.
The Peaky Blinders star is at the top of his game right now and this is fascinating casting. As for Blunt, who will play Oppenheimer’s wife Kitty, her projects are quickly becoming a must-watch.
Nolan is writing and directing the film that is set for release by Universal. It is currently due for release in July 2023.
The movie marks another step on Pugh’s step to superstardom and her upcoming role in Dune may well cement that.
Who Will Pugh Play In The Dune Sequel?
According to Deadline the British-born actor is now in talks to join the cast – with speculation she will take on the role of Princess Irulan Corrino, the eldest daughter to Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV – for the highly anticipated sequel.
Both films are said to be released in 2023, with Oppenheimer – which also stars Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt and Robert Downey Jr – to hit cinema’s first in July 2023 and Dune: Part 2 said to be released in October 2023.
She would join returning cast members that include; Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya and Josh Brolin, with director, producer and co-screenwriter Denis Villeneuve also returning.
Back Together Again
If all goes to plan Pugh will be reuniting with Chalamet for the first time since they both starred in the movie adaptation of Little Women.
Chalamet starred opposite Pugh (Amy) as beloved character Laurie – in both the original novel and in the film, Laurie and Amy fall in love with each other after Laurie falls out of favour with Amy’s older sister, Jo.
Pugh would be a huge addition to the cast after really growing her fan-base and profile after taking on the role of ‘Yelena’ in Marvel’s Black Widow – a role she reprised in the Marvel and Disney+ series Hawkeye.
What We Know About Dune: Part 2
Although nothing is set in stone the Dune: Part 1 director, Denis Villeneuve, has hinted at what fans can expect from next year’s blockbuster sequel.
He told Empire he will be working with the same crew as the next movie will be ‘more challenging’.
He said: ‘The thing that helps us right now is that it’s the first time I’ve revisited a universe. So I’m working with the same crew, everybody knows what to do, we know what it will look like. The movie will be more challenging, but we know where we are stepping.’
‘When you adapt, you have to make bold choices in order for the things to come to life,’ he continued, ‘And I think that was the best way to introduce this world to a wide audience.
‘Now in the second one, I want to have more flexibility, and it will be possible to go a little bit deeper into some of these details.’
If Dune: Part 1 is anything to go by a sequel should be a huge success – the film raked in nine Oscar nominations and grossed $400 million (£303 million) at the worldwide box office to date.
