Our Favourite Songs From Enchanted As We Look Forward To Sequel

With Enchanted two (Disenchanted) coming out in the Autumn, it seems only fitting to take a look back at the smash hits from the first film that were the soundtrack to our childhoods.

That’s How You Know

This has to be up at the top of this list. No doubt. It is a classic staple of the film. We see Giselle singing, frolicking and sparking off a whole Disney parade in Central Park. At the heart of the song, Giselle (Amy Adams) is asking Robert (Patrick Dempsey) if he loves Nancy (Idina Menzel). And if he does love her, how does she know? What does he do to show her that he ’really, really, truly’ loves her?

Giselle’s innocence, paired with her makeshift princess dress (made out of curtains), makes her the perfect singer for this song.

Happy Working Song

Here is your quintessential Disney song. Similar to ‘Cinderelly’ in Cinderella, we see Giselle hum a tune out her window only to be greeted with an array of helpful animals. We see pigeons sweeping up crumbs with their wings, rats plucking hair from the shower drain and roaches eating the dirt from the vacuum.

This is a very modern, New York twist on the Disney trope of getting animals to help a princess with her chores. However disgusting it may sound, once the song is over, the apartment is spotless. Well done, guys.

True Love’s Kiss

This is the first song we hear in the film, sung by our own Princess, Giselle. While still a cartoon (stay with me), she describes her burning desire to have a true love’s kiss. Of course, she is explaining this in song, to her animal friends. All she wants is ’to spend a life of endless bliss, just find who you love, through true love’s kiss.’ I mean, she’s not asking for much! Give the woman what she wants.

So Close

So Close is definitely a tear-jerker, so get the tissues ready. It is sung by Jon McLaughlin, who poses as a ballroom singer in the film. This song sees Giselle and Robert dance together, after he woke her with true love’s kiss, classic Disney. The two begin to realise that they have mutual romantic feelings towards each other.

While this is heartwarming, we see Nancy, Robert’s fiancé, watch on, as she comes to understand that what she had with Robert is probably over. If you need a good cry, mixed with both happy and sad tears, take five minutes and give this a listen.

Ever Ever After

Sung by country legend Carrie Underwood, Ever Ever After is the perfect song to close out this amazing film. As the song plays, we get to see where all the characters end up after the big bust up at the end of the film.

*ENDING SPOILERS*

Giselle marries Robert and opens her own fashion store, with some animal assistants. Edward and Nancy head into the cartoon land and get married. Oh, and the chipmunk becomes a writer. Everyone wins. Ever Ever After’s upbeat and soulful tune perfectly mirrors the happily ever after that everyone finds at the end of this top tier film.
