Going to university can be a great way to meet new people and one of the best ways is by joining a society. Among the more obvious are some quirky university societies.
Of course, there are your normal societies like football, crafting, chess and so on. But some universities out there really go for it, as you can see below.
The Quidditch Club: University of Oxford
If you have been living under a rock, Quidditch is the most popular sport played in the magical world of Harry Potter.
When played by magical folk, it sees players fly about on broomsticks at lightning speed. However, we non-magic people, or “muggles” cannot do this.
Naturally, you would think there is no point in attempting it then. Wrong! Almost 300 universities worldwide have a Quidditch society. Us “muggles” have to play it on the ground with a broom between our legs, but the fun is there, nonetheless.
SocieTEA: University of Bath
University life can be full-on. Many students enjoy going on brash nights out involving dark and loud nightclubs, but what if that isn’t your scene? Well, Bath has the solution for you.
SocieTEA members simply meet at a designated cafe and drink some lovely tea. It is usually a BYOM (bring your own mug) situation, but tea lovers usually have an array of weird and wonderful mugs on hand at any time, so this probably is not an issue.

Despite its name, this society does not condone actual assassinating. Members of this society are taught the skills and tricks you would need in order to become a well-trained killer.
Throughout the year, they take part in simulated activities that test their abilities and, at the end of the year, they face off against other Assassin societies to see who comes out on top.
The 20-Minute Society: Newcastle University
This is one of the more unique and quirkier societies in the UK, however it is one of Newcastle’s most popular. This is perfect for thrill-seeking adventurers.
The idea is simple. Every week, you get a random text detailing a location. You must then drop everything and get to the location within 20 minutes.
You’re in class? Leave. At your job? Run out. It seems crazy, but that is the point. And they are always worth it. You could find yourself at a nightclub, a concert or even an airport ready to fly off on a mystery break.
These quirky university societies are sure to make your uni years even more memorable.
