Remote Working Options For Travel-Hungry Graduates

Add as preferred source on Google

With remote working becoming more and more popular, I’ve compiled some of the things that I’ve done since I graduated in the summer, while at home and on holiday.

Influencing

This is an option that I see most discussed in graduate forums and groups. Its enormous popularity is making it a more difficult route to follow. There are so many influencers with such niche selling points, it’s difficult to find originality and subsequently, enough fame for it to pay enough. However, if you already have a following on social media, try to exploit that and hunt for small businesses and companies who wants reps or ads.

If, like me, you are a fellow Gen Zer, you grew up watching the original gang of British influencers – Zoella, Marcus Butler, Casper Lee, Tanya Burr etc. As a result, this might be influencing (ha, see what I did there?) your perception of what influencing is. While many do associate it with YouTube, it has rapidly developed into something bigger. Platforms such as Instagram and TikTok have jumped on the bandwagon, and it’s not uncommon to see your favourite influencers’ books in shops.

Writing

Whether that is content writing, copywriting or journalism, writing comes in hundreds of forms. If you are lucky enough to land yourself with a remote writing job in an area that you are passionate, perfect! Particularly if you are travelling, writing about your travels might not only pay, but will also be a great way of documenting your experiences. Regardless, writing is generally relatively flexible, as long as there is a decent WiFi connection.

If you haven’t already got a job, platforms such as Fiverr, Upwork and Freelancer can all be great starting points as a freelancer. Simply set up, market yourself well and wait for the work to come to you. These platforms can take some perseverance, but once you get your first few clients, your reputation grows.

Remote internships are also becoming a great option for recent graduates.

Digital Marketing

Similarly to influencing, digital marketing often relies on building a following on social media. Whether it’s using social media as a marketing took, managing Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) for a brand, or video marketing, these are all versions of digital marketing that can easily be done remotely.

Teaching English

Since the Covid-19 pandemic, the online teaching industry has experienced an enormous boom. There was suddenly a huge demand for EFL (English as a Foreign Language) teachers. For lots of tutoring agencies, all that is required is proof of GCSE English. However, a CELTA qualification isn’t difficult to obtain, and can also be done remotely.

Try websites such as Preply, MyTutor or Cambly to teach English when you want and where you want. You can even dictate your own rate of pay!
