Elliot Clay’s new song cycle musical leaves you smiling and brings out your inner child.
As part of Gen Z I don’t ‘fit’ in the generation of Millennials. Despite this, I feel that both generations have a crossover of feelings and experiences. With this in mind, there’s nothing about Elliot Clay’s song cycle that won’t strike a chord no matter what your age.
Touching on topics such as anxiety about the future, love and friendship, money and work, and personal feelings. It could take you back to your own memories or something that you know of.
The songs transport you through the lives of our extraordinary young people.
The Set
One of the best parts of the hour-and-fifteen-minute show is the set. The second you walk down the stairs into the studio of The Other Palace you get transferred into a pink playground. There is even a trampoline in the center of the stage, which is used by the cast in some songs.
A ticket option is the studio floor. Here you have a wide choice of where to sit or stand, these include blankets, inflatable chairs, a ball pit and a bathtub.
Pick your spot and enjoy the show. Sitting on blankets in front of the stage was a musical experience I had never done before and I couldn’t have had more fun. Inflatable balls and rubber ducks: What more could you ask for.
The Song cycle
Written by Elliot Clay the pop infused song-cycle stars Luke Bayer, Hiba Elchikhe (July 29), Rob Madge (until July 31), Hannah Lowther, Luke Latchman and Georgina Onuorah
The show starts with a figure (Luke Bayer) standing on the avocado-shaped stage, opening up to the audience about the stage fright he experiences singing into a microphone. From there we learn a snippet about each person’s story in a song; each with a different vibe.
Each performer shows their superpower talent with powerful riffs and impressive vocals.
Three of the songs are available to stream, See you, 21st Century Girl and Remember The Feeling, so pop them on and have a bop.
Audiences have been asking for a full cast recording of the songs. Elliot Clay, the writer of the show, told us to ‘stay tuned for news’ which is very exciting.
Elliot Clay has always had a love for song cycles, with that being his inspiration to write one. He said: “It seemed like the perfect way to tell these different Millennial stories in a very contemporary pop-based way!”
