Star of Netflix’s hit show Riverdale, KJ Apa, is set to star in HBO Max live-action movie adaptation of DC’s The Wonder Twins.
The actor has been cast alongside 1883‘s Isabel May for the roles of the alien-siblings Zan and Jayna, respectively, for according to Deadline.
What is The Wonder Twins
Hardcore DC fans will know The Wonder Twins from the1977 Super Friends comic book – by E. Nelson Bridwell and artist Ramona Fradon. But as for the characters Zan and Jayna are from the planet Exxor are were being informally trained by the DC superheroes.
The twins were orphaned during a plague but adopted by the alien Exorians and along the way, they’re given Gleek as a pet.
Of course there’s a villain, Grax, who has set out to destroy Earth, which they travel there to warn the Justice League.
They ultimately blend into life on Earth as Swedish exchange students, attending Gotham City High School.
Fans may have seen the twins when they’ve made cameos in other parts of the DC universe over the years, including TV shows Smallville, Teen Titans Go! and The Flash.
All We Know About The HBO Series
Details of the movie’s plot it’s assumed the character’s powers won’t be changing. Jayna is known for her talent of transforming into an animal, while Zan is a shapeshifter – but not as impressively as his sister.
We do know Wonder Twins is being written and directed by Adam Sztykiel, best known as a writer on Dwayne Johnson projects Rampage and Black Adam, alongside his co-writing credit on the fourth Alvin And The Chipmunks movie, from 2015.
Besides Apa – who is prominently known for taking on the role of Archie in the hit Netflix series Riverdale – and May – known for playing Elsa Dutton on Paramount+’s Yellowstone prequel series 1883 – other cast members are yet to be announced and it’s unclear whether the studio will do a Marvel-esque take an feature cross-overs from other DCs series’ or movies, as with Batman Vs Superman – or, whether the twins will be the only stars of the show.
Alongside further details a release date is yet to be announced.
