Screen International has revealed its list of this year’s most promising young creatives within film and television. The UK and Ireland 2022 Stars of Tomorrow showcases the up-and-coming actors, directors, writers, producers and heads of department on their way to the top of their fields.
Many previous Stars of Tomorrow have become BAFTA and Oscar nominees and winners. Past names include Paul Mescal, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ncuti Gatwa, Florence Pugh and John Boyega.
The list began in 2004 to highlight and support young talent in the UK and has now flourished into a definitive list of the next best things for UK film and television. Many stars have become international names, leading the way as UK and Irish ‘lights of the global industry’.
Sponsored by Prime Video, and in partnership with ScreenSkills and the BFI Film Festival, the young stars are nurtured into growing their potential with support from industry mentors and professionals who can give advice and guidance in navigating their next career steps.
Fionnuala Halligan, curator of this year’s list of stars said: “We congratulate the cohort, as equal and diverse as ever, on their selection, and look forward to following them through their careers.” Screen is the leading trade publication for all things film and cinema, and so have a grasp on which stars shine and become leads in their fields.
All of this year’s cohort will attend an event in London on July 7th to celebrate their successes. With names such as new Doctor Who companion Yasmin Finney and up-and-coming director George Jaques- whose highly anticipated film Black Dog is filming currently- on the list, there is no shortage of new talent to explore.
