Actress Selma Blair is taking on a new challenge and will be a contestant on Dancing With The Stars in its 31st season.

She is best known for her roles in Legally Blonde and Cruel Intentions.

Blair is set to be partnered with Australian-American professional Sasha Farber. Farber has danced on the show for coming on 10 seasons, partnering with stars such as Simone Biles, Tonya Harding and Justina Machado.

What has Selma Blair been doing outside acting?

In 2018, Blair revealed that she has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS), which affects her mobility and speech.

However, her MS has never stopped her from doing what she wants, and Dancing With The Stars is no exception.

When talking with Good Morning America, Blair said ‘I’m so excited. I’m so happy, so invigorated by this.’ Blair adds ‘This is a new chapter of growing my stamina and really healing. Not just healing, but finding huge strength and support.’

Dealing with MS while learning to dance is a massive feat, but Blair said:

‘It is for the viewer, because that is what has given me support. In dark times in my life, there are people that have come forward, strangers on the street or on Instagram, my original fans… I’m doing it for them.’

Ever since her diagnosis, Blair has been vocal and honest about living with a disability. Shows such as Dancing With The Stars and even the British version, Strictly Come Dancing, are making steps towards including a more diverse range of competitors, which is only a positive thing.

Blair explains, ‘Kindness and visibility is so important, to explore, be curious and expose people to differences of speech or movement.’

Other contestants on the 31st season include Charli D’Amelio, Jordin Sparks, Shangela and Jessie James Decker.

Dancing With The Stars will air on Disney+ on 19 September 2022.
