As the countdown to the start of university begins, some of you may be thinking of trying to improve your culinary skills before moving away.

The feeling of having to cook for yourself may not be unfamiliar to many. However, to a few, it could prove quite a daunting aspect of moving away.

Do not worry, it will be very unlikely that the people you share a house with are too far from your own culinary expertise.

However, learning a few basic dinners and meals to rely on, especially during the first week of uni, can be a great thing to plan.

Below are some easy and quick dinner recipes to follow or be inspired by, ahead of that very first week away.

Chicken Alfredo Penne Pasta

This is a staple dish that will not disappoint.

This is also very quick and easy to be able to throw together a warm yet comforting meal.

All we need is one cubed chicken breast, 2 tablespoons of butter, half a teaspoon of dried oregano, half a teaspoon of dried basil, half a teaspoon of salt, and half a teaspoon of pepper.

Add your penne pasta to the airport and boil come on while this is happening start making your sauce.

Mix parmesan cheese, two cups of milk, full clothes of garlic, and 3 tablespoons of flour at all intervals and mix.

Pan fry or chicken, at your spices, at this to the pasta, mixing the sauce and then topped with cheese. This warm, quick, easy, and tasty dish will be one of your favourite home comforts I can ensure.

Honey Glazed Chilli Chicken and Vegetables

At Uni these are always one of my favourite dishes, as all you do is put it on one tray and cook until it is complete.

Dice green, yellow and red Peppers as well as an onion all into a tray and mix.

Place your juicy chicken thighs on the tray, which have been covered in the source of your choosing.

I always like sweet chili, honey, soy, and sesame seeds.

Place this into the middle of your oven and cook until your chick in is no longer pink.

Mix all together and enjoy a fresh yet tasty dish or to yourself.

Steak Fajitas

For those beef lovers, get yourself a steak, bash it out, add seasoning and pan fry until it is cooked to your liking, and set aside to rest.

As it rests, heat your tortillas, dice your Peppers, onion, garlic, and leaks.

Also, get out any sauces that you wish to add to your fajitas, this can be sour cream and chive, salsa or guacamole.

Sit down and serve yourself up as many fajitas as you see fit.

This is a tasty and great recipe! It is also a great dish to share with your housemates.

Buy a Blender

Another tip for the first week of Uni would be to get a blender. This is a great way to ensure that you eat enough vegetables.

As you can throw in anything that you think will taste nice in a soup, then bring it to a boil with a splash of cream, and then you are set for lunches for as long as you see fit.

This is an easy and extremely healthy way to ensure that your immune system stays as strong as possible during this transition time in your life.
