Plants

Adopting a plant does require you to take on responsibility, but it more than makes up for it with how much charm it adds to a room. Plan out where you’re going to put. your plants before you buy them so you can optimise the amount of sunlight they get. Students often choose plants like cacti and succulents, since they are typically the easiest to take care of and can go for long periods of time without being watered.

What better way to spruce up a home than with some of your favourite memories? Plus this is arguably the easiest way to make your student house more homely. You can frame some of the best photos of you and your housemates and friends, or simply print a bunch of them as polaroids and hang them up on a poster board or string. You could even get creative and make a collage. It’s easy to do, adds interest to the room and every time you see it, you’ll look back on those fond memories.

If you’re in a rental, you won’t be able to add new carpet to your house. If you’re not a fan of the flooring, however, or you just want to add some extra dimension to a room, you can get get some rugs. Rugs are a perfect way to add pattern and colour to a room and give it some style. At the end of the year, you can roll them up and bring them with you to the next place.

Lighting is one of the easiest ways to transform a room. Trading white overhead lighting for yellower bulbs, hanging up fairy lights or buying a lamp can all help make a room feel softer and more inviting.
