Spiritual Meaning Of Pluto In Capricorn

The movements of Pluto have been among the most significant events in astrology this year. Normally, we read the movements of the planets to make sense of what’s going on in our own lives, whether it’s our jobs, love lives, families or friendships. However, astrology can also clue us into bigger picture events, too — things that we experience as a generation, on a global scale, or as part of history. Pluto, the most distant planet (or dwarf planet), in our solar system, can tell us a lot about these transpersonal or larger scale events. After moving into Aquarius, it is now moving back into Capricorn. So, here is the spiritual meaning of Pluto in Capricorn, how long it will be there, and what to expect.

Pluto, named after the Roman god of the underworld, is associated with death and rebirth in Astrology. It rules over everything beneath the surface, the things which are kept hidden and secret. Pluto is a challenger to power, and can bring along the destruction of old orders which allows for the building of the new.

Back on March 23rd, Pluto entered Aquarius for the first time since 1798. The path that Pluto will follow now is a retrograde back into Capricorn. It will return to Aquarius from January 20th to September 1st of 2024, retrograde into Capricorn again, and then remain in Aquarius on November 19th of 2024, where it will stay for 19 years.

These short stints in Capricorn will represent a return to an old order, and will tie up some of the loose ends of that era. Since prior to this year, Pluto has been in Capricorn since 2008, this is a pairing that we’ve all become quite familiar with. On this scale, Capricorn represents the economy and the structures of wealth in our society. This period began with a global financial recession and has been a time of significant economic inequality. So, as Pluto returns to Capricorn, we may see similar patterns in corporate structures. However, the move to Aquarius in the long term suggests revolution and the development of technology.

This period in Capricorn can be a time to reflect on the past decade, as well as to look towards the future and imagine what changes may come about.
