Presents under the christmas tree.

Starting Your Christmas Shopping Early

Jasmyne Jeffery September 18, 2022

Sure, summer has only just ended, but the sound of jingle bells isn’t too far away either. The earlier you start, the more prepared, and the less stressed, you’ll be. Starting your Christmas shopping now means more fun later.

The weather is crisp with snow lingering in the air. Hot chocolate stalls fill the streets and your favourite jumper is making another outing. It’s a couple of days before Christmas and the realisation hits. You need to do all your Christmas shopping.

We’ve all been there, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be avoided. September might be early for some, but there are many perks of starting early.

Saving Money

Lots of retailers hike up their prices before Christmas because they know people are desperate. It’s no secret that Black Friday deals are typically just their usual price, but they seem better compared to what they’ve been raised to. By getting your gifts in early, you avoid the Christmas prices, saving you a lot of money.

It’s also not such a dent in your bank account. Starting now means you’ve got more time so you can spread it out more. By picking up a present once a week, or even every other week, then you’re going to notice it a lot less. There’s nothing worse than having to spend £100s all at once and none of it is for you.

Enjoying the season

Although lots of people love going out Christmas shopping, it can turn stressful very quickly when it all has to happen in a matter of days. By spreading it out you reduce the stress, meaning you can enjoy the festive season more. You don’t have to cancel Christmas drinks or push back watching Home Alone under a blanket with some gingerbread.

Plus, doing it little and often means you can get a little treat for yourself each time. Tis the season, after all!

Make a list, check it twice

About halfway through the year, I write down a list of names of the people I need to get presents for. Then, anytime I see or think of something that would be perfect, I write it next to their name. I don’t put any pressure on myself to think of something right there and then, just when something pops up. Doing it halfway through the year means there’s plenty of time to find something for everyone and buy it before the Christmas madness begins.

Sure, to many, September seems way too early to be thinking about Christmas, let alone buying presents. However, you’ll soon regret it when Christmas Eve rolls around, the shops are packed, and your bank account is crying.
