Taskmaster is one of the best comedy panel game shows to come out in the past decade. Now, with versions in America, Germany and New Zealand, it has been announced that there will be a junior version coming to our screens.
What Is Taskmaster?
Taskmaster is a comedy panel show that sees comedians take on ridiculous tasks set by the Taskmaster, Greg Davies. The show was created by Alex Horne, who sits as the Taskmaster’s assistant, following contestants around as they complete (or attempt to complete) their tasks.
The game show hit screens in 2015 on Dave and has since risen through the ranks. Taskmaster now appears on Channel 4, with series 15 airing every Thursday night.
Taskmaster has currently won eight British Comedy Awards from 13 nominations.
Junior Taskmaster
The original version of Taskmaster can sometimes include coarse language unsuitable for younger children. Due to this, Channel 4 created a censored version of the show which bleeps out swear words or risqué jokes. This has, in turn, allowed the show to be opened up to a much younger demographic.
School children have taken to the show just as much as adults, so it is no surprise that the Taskmaster gods have decided to create a new series tailored specifically to them.
Creator of the show, Alex Horne says, “I’ve watched many, many comedians flounder when given simple instructions over the past few years and I fully expect the competitors in Junior Taskmaster to be both more competent and just as funny.”
As of yet, there is no confirmed host or assistant. However, we do know that it will not be Greg Davies or Alex Horne. When asked if he would be sitting at the Taskmaster’s right hand for the junior version, Horne said:
“For that series, I will be handing over my assistant’s clipboard to someone equally as efficient and persistent as myself because I have a lot more admin to do with six further handfuls of supposedly talented adults. I live for bureaucracy so this is all excellent news”
There is no release date for this series yet but we can’t wait to see things unfold.
