Taylor Swift has gifted a society at the University of York loads of her ‘Class of 2022’ merch and now they can’t keep calm.

The ironic line from the ‘ME!’ video, ‘Je suis calme’ has never been more apt as York’s ‘SwiftSoc’ – as society dedicated to celebrating the 11-times Grammy winner – received a surprise parcel full of merchandise.

York Swiftsoc, was the first Taylor Swift University society, set up in 2015, but now it’s just one of over 40 in UK universities.

A message from Taylor

A member of the society tole the York Press the group had received a message from the 32-year-old’s management team asking about there society which raised their suspisions.

Hannah Desmond, of the University of York SwiftSoc, said: ‘Back in February, our president Lauryn received a message from Taylor’s official management team, asking how big our society is and how many of our members are graduating this year – we spent hours theorising about why they wanted to know.

‘A month or so later, Queens University in Canada, posted a photo on their Instagram of a box of merch Taylor Nation had sent them.

‘We were so happy for them but also gutted, and concluded that they must have chosen a different SwiftSoc to send the gifts to.’

A gift from Taylor

Although the group’s hopes were initially dashed it turns out their president had actually been keeping a sneaky secret from the members and one day it all became clear when a package arrived revealing the group had been gifted loads of the singer’s merch – and a signed note from Swift herself – which they shared in a TikTok video.

‘That’s when Lauryn tells us she’s been keeping a secret, and that there is a package on its way to us, we had to wait almost an entire month until we were all back in York together to be able to open it, but it was well worth the wait,’ Hannah continued.

‘Needless to say the committee were in pieces and I feel sorry for anyone who was revising on the first floor of the library that day as I’m sure the walls were not able to contain our excitement.’
