Season 16 of one of Britain’s most popular shows, The Apprentice, is now well under way. So far, Lord Sugar has sent four potential business partners packing. The show turns us all into armchair business people, with each new installment bringing on at least one eye roll from us all. It is hard to forget the pressure placed on the candidates. Your idea, that you came up with on your cosy sofa with a cup of tea, seems much better than what they muster up. Despite the cringe, the show has become a staple of a Thursday night.
Episode four saw some of the UK’s ‘brightest business brains’ tackle the fish industry. They had it all to do, with half of the two teams sent to Cornwall, catching the fish they then cooked and sold at a farmers’ market. The other members of both teams remained in London, still getting stuck in by preparing their chosen fish to sell to a high-end client. This episode had it all, including the infamous last few minutes when the contestants sell their remaining stock for anything they can get.
As always, the viewing experience of the show was greatly improved by simultaneously following #TheApprentice on social media. Therefore, Freshered has compiled the best posts that did the rounds on Thursday evening. The quick thinking of these users makes me think some of them would be better off competing in the tasks, rather than cracking wise about them on the internet.
Amy’s early suggestion which led Alex to become Project Manager did not leave him best pleased:
His sales team’s forgetful moment in a meeting with a five star hotel cost him dearly:
Some people believed that Alex clearly was not the right man to lead:
One Twitter user clearly would have not fared well on this task:
Francesca was in her element on this task, given her previous experience of fishing on holiday with her Dad. It certainly would have made him proud:
Some believe there is nothing she can’t do:
The candidates will do anything to make sure they become Lord Sugar’s next business partner, even if that does mean putting up with his bad jokes:
One user believed this might be their only option, given their poor business skills:
Whereas others believed there was only one man for job:
After completing the task, the candidates then had the small matter of facing Lord Sugar in the boardroom. A place where the weak are hung out to dry, it is imperative that you fight your case with everything you’ve got. That’s not to say that the business tycoon does not try and lighten the mood:
At the end of the episode, one candidate was fired. Some people were not happy with the choice, however:
The scarf and long coat trench coat look of the fired candidate is iconic, with one person believing the producers go to extreme lengths to capture the shot:
The Apprentice returns at the normal time of 9pm next Thursday, where the candidates are tasked with creating their own video game.
