The Best Revision Techniques For Exam Season

Add as preferred source on Google

As we’re once again in the midst of exam season, you might be feeling overwhelmed by your growing pile of notes and fast approaching deadlines. There are so many ways to revise, depending on what kind of learner you are, and the reason the information might not be sinking in could be because you just haven’t found the technique that works for you yet. We’ve put together a list of our best revision techniques for exam season, to give you a helping hand.

Flashcards

This is the technique that works the best for me. It might seem simple but it’s really effective in forcing you to remember the information. My personal favourite app is ‘Chegg’ which allows you to create flashcards and tick them off when you’ve learned them. It’s an app on your phone so it’s really convenient for revising in those five-minute windows you have in everyday life, for example waiting for a bus or even sitting on the toilet. Every moment counts!

Create mental associations

A good way to remember definitions of things is to make a mental association between it and something else. For example if you need to remember the name of a chemical element, think of the band My Chemical Romance. The two things don’t even need to be connected. If you just create an association between them, your mind will do the rest.

Scents and tastes

When you’re revising, always chew the same gum or wear the same perfume. That way, when it comes to sitting the exam, when you taste the gum or smell your perfume it will remind you of revision and cast your mind back to what you need to know.

Use mock exams

This might seem obvious but actually it’s a useful tool a lot of people forget to use. Find as many mock exams as you can and go through the mark schemes. You will get used to the question style and are less likely to be thrown off on the day. You might even get lucky and get a similar question you already know how to answer.

So there you have it, some of the best revision techniques that, hopefully, will stand you in good stead. Let us know in the comments if you have any more.
