As the show reaches its fifth season, The Crown has been looking for the right actors to play Prince William and Kate in the sixth season. And it seems as though they have finally come to a decision.
New cast members
According to Deadline the producers of The Crown have cast two actors to play the Prince of Wales. This is so they can show him as he goes from a teenager to a young man.
Rufus Kampa
Rufus Kampa will portray Prince William aged 15. He is set to appear in episodes that discuss how the Royal Family coped with the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, in August 1997.
Kampa made his acting debut on the West End stage playing the lead role in Sue Townsend’s The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 & 3/4’s: The Musical.
Ed McVey
Ed McVey will play the Prince in his later teens and early adult years. McVey will appear in episodes that show Prince William and Kate at the Universtiy of St Andrews where they both studied Art History. These episodes will portray how they met and their subsequent courtship.
McVey graduated from Drama Centre London and quickly landed the understudy role in Camp Siegfried. Casting directors chose McVey to play Prince William because, according to Deadline, he can ‘perform heightened RP accent’ and ‘is proficient with firearms’.
Meg Bellamy
Meg Bellamy has been cast to play Kate Middleton across all younger ages.
Bellamy is a new talent and was selected after she submitted a tape following a casting call put out on social media.
Season 5
The fifth season of The Crown is set to be released on Netflix in November 2022.
As seen in previous season of The Crown, the casting is all different. Season five will see:
- Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II
- Jonathan Pryce as Prince Phillip
- Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret
- Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana
- Dominic West as Prince Charles
- Olivia Williams as Camilla Parker Bowles
