The 2008 musical 13 has now been turned into a Netflix film of the same name and fans cannot wait!
The musical will be available on Netflix from 12 August 2022.
The film’s official synopsis from Netflix is the following:
After moving from New York to Indiana in the wake of his parents’ divorce, a clever middle schooler is determined to throw the best bar mitzvah ever.
Cast
Evan Goldman is the main character of the film and is played by Eli Golden. Despite only just becoming a teenager, Golden has already made his mark. He can be seen in shows such as Orange Is the New Black (2013), Deception (2018) and The Wizard of Lies (2017).
Surrounding Golden are a handful of well-known names. Rabbi Shaprio is played by Nickelodeon star Josh Peck who made his name on the sitcom Drake & Josh which ran from 2004 to 2007.
Additionally, Goldman’s TV mother is played by Will & Grace’s own Debra Messing.
Other notable cast members are Peter Hermann (Law & Order), Rhea Perlman (Matilda) and Ramon Reed (Roll It Back). 13 is the on-screen debut for Gabriella Uhl who appeared in the US tour of School of Rock.
The new adaptation’s director is Tamara Davis, who has directed episodes of hit shows such as Greys Anatomy, Dead To Me and The Politician.
The original 13
13 ran in the West End between 2008-2009 with 105 performances. In 2010, the show made its UK debut at The Rival Theatre Company.
Some of the original cast members were Ariana Grande, Elizabeth Gillies and Graham Philips.
The original show features music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown, Dan Elish and Robert Horn. Horn has written this new adapted screenplay, with Brown composing new songs.
13 was – and still is – the only musical to feature a cast and band entirely made up of teenagers.
