Is life moving too fast for you right now? If it is, I can relate! Students are thrown into the deep end when they start university, expecting to smoothly transition from dependent teenagers into independent adults. Scary stuff, right? Luckily for us, there are songs out there that encapsulate these feelings perfectly.
#1 – Barbies by P!NK
This track has me in tears every time because its just so relatable. P!NK sings about life moving too fast when all she wants to do is ‘go back to playing Barbies.’ Ah, remember that carefree life without responsibility and heartbreak? I sometimes wish that my life was simpler too.
#2 – I Don’t Wanna Grow Up by Bebe Rexha
The title says it all! Bebe Rexha sings about being young and naive and not wanting to mature into reality. Wouldn’t we all love to live in dream world where everything stays just how we want it to, if we could? Ironically, Bebe later released ‘Not 20 Anymore’ which completely contradicts this messaging in an age of growth and experience. But that’s not relevant to us right now, is it?
#3 – Never Grow Up by Taylor Swift
Admittedly we’re still waiting on a Taylor’s Version for this one but it’s too relevant not to include. ‘Never Grow Up’ literally sums up everything we’re feeling right now, focusing on a child growing up, moving out and heading to college. There are so many thing we’ve experienced for the last time and we just didn’t realise it. Get ready to cry your eyes out as you take a trip down memory lane.
#4 – 26 by Lauv
Lauv never shies away from expressing his emotions and ’26’ is no different. It focuses on a 26-year-old who has everything he’s ever dreamed of. He’s meant to be happy as he is so wealthy yet one thing that money can’t buy is time. It’s quite a sad concept when you take time to reflect on it. But I can somewhat relate to its message (well… except for the rich bit – I wish).
#5 – Just Got Paid by Ella Eyre
If you do as you please and are just out there living your best life with no regrets then Ella Eyre has got your back. Perhaps you should be saving up for that new car you have your eye on. Maybe you have bills to pay? If you like to put all of the important things to aside when you get paid and splash the cash on nights out instead then you’ll definitely be able to relate.
#6 – Everybody’s Changing by Keane
Struggling to keep up with others is hard work. It can be so hard when you feel like you should be hitting certain milestones and haven’t quite gotten there yet. ‘Everybody’s Changing’ is a classic Keane song that sums up feeling like you have ‘to make a move just to stay in the game.’
#7 – Lost And Lonely by Paloma Faith
Do you ever feel so lost and insignificant in the adult world? You were so used to your comfortable lifestyle at home and then all of a sudden are expected to fend for yourself. Paloma reflects on a similar experience which will resonate with all of us.
#8 – 2002 by Anne Marie
Let’s take it back to ‘the days when we were young’ (quite literally the age of toddlers for most of us) and remind ourselves of the happy times of our childhood. This song has me reminiscing over summer holidays with my family in which all I cared about was going on arcade machines and running on the beach.
#9 – Castle On The Hill by Ed Sheeran
An Ed Sheeran classic! Whilst ‘Castle On The Hill’ as an obvious banger it also does wonders in reminding you of home, childhood friends and a time with zero commitments. Adult life is rather serious but back then, bills and the price of fuel didn’t matter to you. If only we could go back to those days!
#10 – Here’s To Never Growing Up by Avril Lavigne
I used to be Avril Lavigne’s number one fan growing up and I’m not even going to deny it. This song gives me so much nostalgia. Unfortunately, no matter how much you sing it, you won’t stop getting older. Nevertheless, it’s a great tune!
