The Spring Equinox Spiritual Meaning As The Clocks Go Forward 2023

Jasmyne Jeffery March 16, 2023

In the UK, the clocks go forward at the end of March which means that we’ll all be thrown out of whack for a day or two. Nobody will know what the ‘real’ time is, but it does mean that the days are longer and warmer days are on the horizon. Keep yourself grounded by learning the Spring Equinox spiritual meaning, how it might inform the next few months and what you can do to celebrate it.

Warmer days are on the way and that is none more obvious than the fact that the clocks go forward this month! Sure, the UK has had a few snow days in the last couple of weeks and that’s only been replaced by rain, but that doesn’t stop us from hoping that the sun is coming. As well as manifesting a good summer, we take a look at what the spiritual meaning of the Spring Equinox has in store for us.

When Do The Clocks Change In 2023?

The clocks will be going forward on Sunday, March 26. If you’ve always been slightly confused about it, we can’t blame you as the whole situation is a little baffling.

In the Spring, the clocks go forward, meaning that we lose an hour of sleep. This has always been a bit of a kick in the teeth for mothers out there as Mother’s Day often lands on the same day. Luckily, that’s not the case in 2023 as the Spring Equinox falls a week later. The little phrase to help you remember what happens with the clocks is ‘Spring forward, Fall back’, which, although Americanised, does help you keep track.

On Sunday morning, the clocks will go straight from 1.59 am to 3.00 am, missing out the hour between 2 am and 3 am, hence losing the hour. Lots of devices automatically adjust to the clocks change, however, if you still have an analogue clock or a stubborn microwave or car, you may want to fix them the night before. It’ll save you a lot of confusion in the morning.

For those who want to be super prepared, the clocks will go forward again on October 29.

The Spring Equinox Spiritual Meaning

As the Earth comes alive again, the Spring Equinox spiritual meaning is all about growth, restarting and awakenings.

It’s a time when your soul and spirit are more open to new ideas and achievements, meaning you should embrace new creative directions or decisions in all aspects of your life. Fresh energy from the warmth of the sun should make you feel renewed and inspired, with a fresh headspace to tackle challenges head-on with tactics you may not have thought of before.

If you have been feeling off-balanced, unfocused or disrupted lately, that could be because of the change of season and energy. As we head into Spring, you will find that balance is returned, as it is with the Earth as night and day become equal once again. The forces of light and dark being equal means their effects on us are returned to harmony.

The spiritual meaning of the Spring Equinox is all about energy and opportunity. Use it as a fresh beginning, to let in inspiration and to come alive to the world and what it has in store for you.

Set clear aspirations for yourself based on growth and renewal to truly embrace the Spring Equinox.

How To Celebrate The Spring Equinox

There are so many ways to acknowledge the changing of the season and what it represents. It can be as simple as embracing the outdoors and being among nature as the days get longer.

You could choose to celebrate the growth aspect of the day. Plant flowers, fruit and more as a visual reminder of your own aspirations. Or, simply show your garden and nature some love! Planting foods and even singing to them is a traditional way to celebrate the Spring Equinox. Make the most of the Earth’s renewed fertility!

Another to embrace the day is to fully take in the sun. Wake up at sunrise and stand in the new sun, awakening your body and mind and absorbing its energy. If it’s a cloudy day, you can recreate the energy using a bonfire. Invite friends and family around to set your new intentions and burn them to fully cement them.

More traditionally, you could take part in a bit of Spring cleaning. Open your windows to let in the new season whilst cleansing the winter energy and reviving your home. Now is the time to clear out old clothes or move things around. Use the inspiration of the Spring Equinox to finally complete this task. By completing an intention on the first day, you’ll be setting a precedent for how you intend to go on.

Though we’ve offered some suggestions for Spring Equinox celebrations, spend the day however you feel inspired by the new season!
