Over the years, the range of University degrees you can choose have become more varied, and more weird and wacky. If you can imagine it, there’s probably a degree in it. We’ve rounded up the quirkiest and most niche of the bunch.
If you’re undecided on what you want do in the future, this might give you a little bit of inspiration.
1. Contemporary Circus and Physical Theatre
You can study this at Bath Spa University and literally run away to the circus.
If you’re into performance and want to try something a bit different, this course could be the one for you. It offers use of specialist equipment, as well as industry links with companies such as Cirque Bijou.
2. Viticulture and Oenology
This BsC Hons degree at Plumpton College sounds really confusing and scientific by name, but it’s actually a degree in making wine.
This is the only European undergraduate degree in Wine Production taught in English. You get access to 10-hectare vineyards and the course offers world class education. Plus, I’m sure there will be plenty of sampling involved so, if you’re a wine-lover, this may be for you.
3. Ethical Hacking
At Abertay University you can study Ethical Hacking. ‘Ethical’ and ‘hacking’ are not two words you would expect to be in a sentence together, nevermind the title of a degree.
It teaches you how to stop illegal hacking and how to understand the process behind a cyber attack. So essentially, it’s not showing you how to hack into the most top secret systems (although that would be pretty cool), it teaches you how to stop others from doing it.
4. Surf Science
It’s no surprise that Cornwall College offers a degree in Surf Science. With the beaches so close, it’s the ideal place for this course and if you’re going to study it, it may as well be there.
The course combines sports science, the environment, the surf industry and the media.
5. Animal Behaviour and Psychology
Have you ever looked at your pet and wondered what is going on inside their head? With this degree, you’ll have the opportunity to find out. The BSc degree at the University of Chester teaches you about the way animals think and why they behave the way they do. You could literally be an animal whisperer.
