Taylor Jenkins Reid has taken the book world by storm and will now take the film world on as well from this year and beyond.
Reid is responsible for The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, Daisy Jones and the Six, Malibu Rising, and Carrie Soto is Back. Her novels have become such a success that many are being turned into movies and series. Nothing has been released yet. But, here is what we can expect ahead of some releases.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo Movie
Netflix announced via Instagram that they plan to adapt Jenkins Reid’s best-seller into a movie. It’s due to be taken directly from the novel, so it’s likely that the plot will be exactly the same. Nothing has been announced in terms of the cast just yet. But this hasn’t stopped fans from casting their own dream cast.
Ana de Armas and Rita Moreno are the favourites to play the older and younger version of Evelyn. Anya Taylor-Joy is the dream of Celia St. James. Richard Madden, Harry Styles and Glen Powell are also in the rumours to play some of the husbands. Despite whoever lands the roles, the film will be a glamorous adaptation.
Malibu Rising Series, produced by Taylor Jenkins Reid
The streaming service Hulu has bought the rights to adapt Taylor Jenkins Reid’s, Malibu Rising. The book is an interlinked story to The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. It’s all about the children of Mick Riva, one of Evelyn’s husbands. The series is in development with no confirmation on a date or cast.
Jenkins Reid will produce the series alongside Liz Tigelaar. Tigelaar also created the series Little Fires Everywhere, an adaptation of the book written by Celeste Ng. Hulu has adapted several books into series, including Normal People, Little Fires Everywhere, and High Fidelity. So it’s certainly in safe hands.
Daisy Jones and the Six Series
Amazon bought the rights to produce a 13-episode series of Daisy Jones and the Six. Like the other series, there’s no release date yet. But, it has a cast and is complete! Riley Keough will play Daisy Jones, the rock star of our dreams. It’s a very apt role for her to play, as she is the granddaughter of Elvis Presley and stepdaughter of Michael Jackson! Sam Claflin will star as Billy and Suki Waterhouse is playing Karen.
The series will have an original soundtrack featuring songs written by Jenkins Reid in the novel. Reese Witherspoon is producing the show under her production company Hello Sunshine. Witherspoon has been a fan of this novel for a long time, she even selected it for her book club in 2019. With a cast that loves the novel, this adaptation will rock.
One True Loves is also getting its own film. It’s starring Phillipa Soo (the original Eliza Hamilton in Hamilton) and Simu Liu (of Shang-Chi). It will release later this year. With all of these adaptations, it’s clear that it’s Taylor Jenkins Reid’s world and we’re just living in it!
