Is it possible to dress like a student? Well I certainly think so. A stereotype has been created through movies and TV shows that sees students wear low maintenance, simple clothing which can easily be thrown on with little effort. Let’s face it, who has time to look glam when they have a 9am seminar? There are certain items that all students have decided to incorporate into their wardrobes just to make putting together an outfit for the day as easy as possible. Here’s a list of some of my personal favourite wardrobe staples that all students should know about.
Cycling Shorts
Cycling shorts are an essential because they will be there for you no matter the time of day. Wearing them under a short dress can instantly give you an extra bit of reassurance, while wearing them with a t-shirt can make for the comfiest pyjamas! Of course, they are also perfect for heading to the gym or going for a bike ride.
Little Black Dress
An LBD is an essential piece of my wardrobe. On a student budget, I can’t afford to buy a new dress every time I go out. But having a go-to black dress in my wardrobe means that I can put together an outfit that looks good but takes me little effort to put together. If you’re clever, you can style it with different coloured accessories to create multiple looks that all have the WOW factor. Bright and vibrant colours pop against a black dress, making your outfit 100 times better.
Oversized T-Shirt
Like cycling shorts, you can use an oversized t-shirt as one half of a pyjama set or perhaps just wear it as a short dress. My personal favourite use for it is to use it as a tanning shirt. Baggy clothing is a must when it comes to getting a gorgeous glow. You should always have an oversized t-shirt lying about, because you never know when it might come in handy.
A Matching Hoodie and Jogging Bottoms
Almost every student at some point rocks up to Uni in a matching co-ord. Hoodies and joggers are so comfy and are perfect for day-to-day travelling. They are also so warm: a must-have for these winter days on campus. I love matching sets because they provide you with an outfit that has already been put together. Say goodbye to the days of umming and arring over what to wear. Save your time by reaching for your comfiest co-ord.
Fancy Dress Outfits
At Uni, the chances are you will probably be invited to your fair share of fancy dress parties. That can get overwhelming if you don’t have any dress-up outfits in your wardrobe. It can be rather stressful trawling around town last-minute hoping you come across exactly what you need for your costume. Instead, having a few pieces already among your clothes means that you always have something to rely on when you get invited to spontaneous nights out.
Denim Jeans
Everything goes with a pair of denim jeans. Tops, hoodies, jumpers, sweatshirts – you name it. Having a plain pair to hand makes for an easy outfit. Then all you need to worry about is what to wear with them. You can also wear them for multiple days at a time before washing them, which fits into our busy student lifestyles.
