Thor: Love And Thunder Post-Credit Scenes Explained

Warning: Spoilers ahead.

Marvel films are now synonymous with post-credit scenes.

Sometimes they are simply a throwaway continuation of the film, showing a side character only just realising that they met a superhero, for example.

Other times, they tease new characters or upcoming films, as seen in the 2022 Multiverse of Madness where Charlize Theron appears to Dr Strange and announces she is ‘Clea’.

These scenes have now become a staple within the Marvel Cinematic Universe and sees almost everyone in the cinema waiting until the screen fully goes black before they leave.

Thor: Love and Thunder was no exception to this.

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

First post-credit scene

During the film, Thor has a fight with Zeus (Russel Crowe), which ends in Thor impailing Zeus with his own lightening bolt. The first post-credit scene sees Zeus having survived his injuries and being taken care of by several women in togas.

Zeus complains that mortals now ignore gods and instead look to superheroes to help solve their problems.

‘When did we become the joke?’ says Zeus. ’They will fear us again when Thor Odinson falls from the sky.’ Out for revenge, Zeus orders his son Hercules to take out Thor. The camera then pans to an up-shot to reveal Hercules himself, played by Brett Goldstein, best known for playing Roy Kent in Ted Lasso.

Second post-credit scene

After taking up Mjölnir one final time, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) succums to her illnesses and dies in Thor’s arms at the gates of Eternity.

The second post-credit scene sees Foster walking up to Valhalla, where god’s who died in battle are sent to ‘celebrate in banquet halls’. Foster is welcomed in by Heimdall (Idris Elba), a much loved Asgardian who was killed in Avengers: Infinity War by Thanos.

It is unclear whether this marks the end of Foster’s time in the MCU, or whether she will be brought back.

This scene also raises questions of whether we will see other god’s who have passed on and been sent to Valhalla.

As we have seen with many other MCU films, death doesn’t always mean that people are gone. So, we must wait to see what is left in store for us.
