Tips On How To Make The Perfect Playlist

Molly Raby May 22, 2023

There’s nothing worse than having to sift through loads of different playlists trying to find the one that has the specific vibe you want. By the time you have settled for one that is mildly up the right alley, the moment has gone. So, here are some tips on how to make one for yourself that means you will always have the perfect playlist on hand.

Playlist’s Purpose

Firstly, you need to figure out why you want to create these playlists. You should ask yourself some questions in order to make it as good as you can. These are questions such as:

  • Why are you creating this playlist?
  • What will the purpose of the playlist be?
  • How do you want to feel when you listen to it?

People create playlists to feel happier, or to help them bring out sad, hurtful emotions. Once you figure out what kind of playlist you are aiming for, you can move onto the actual songs.

You can also create a playlist based around a film or show you love. This can include songs that remind you of the show, as well as songs that actually feature in the show.

Order Of The Tracks

You need to consider the order of the tracks you are putting into your playlist. Are you going to be shuffling it or listening to it in the order you have set them?

Many artists curate their track lists in a specific way. It may be because the songs take you on an emotional journey, a musical journey, or just because they like the way the songs sound in that order. You too can create a playlist that sends you on a journey; one that you have created for yourself.

Find The Right Tracks

Some people may already have upwards of 50 songs ready for any specific playlist: good for them! They can create a playlist in minutes. However, if you are needing a bit more guidance, you should take some time to find the right songs for this playlist. Tune choice, after all, is the key when asking how to make the perfect playlist.

You can find new songs by looking into different genres that you normally would. On Spotify, there are hundreds of different genre folders for you to browse.

You can also ask your friends for recommendations. They may have made a few playlists already that you can listen to and take some of your favourites from there.

Final Touches

Once you have done the heavy lifting of picking the right songs for your playlist, there are a few final touches that you need to pay attention to.

One is finding the right name for your playlist. Don’t name it something boring like ‘my playlist’, because you won’t remember what vibe you were going for when you made it.

There are millions of great playlist names going around, from ‘The Soundtrack To Your Summer’ to ‘Screaming Crying With The Car Windows Down On The Motorway’. Both of these evoke a real emotion and let you know what kind of vibe you are going into with this playlist, so make sure your name reflects that.

Finally, you need to choose the correct cover photo for the playlist. If your playlist is about a specific film, you could choose a still from that. However, if you are going for a more abstract, emotional meaning from the playlist, you need to look for an image that will truly encompass what the playlist is about.

Now you know how to make the perfect playlist, let’s get cracking.
