Actress Tommy Dorfman is on the lookout for someone to play the lead in her new film, I Wish You The Best.
Some time last year, in an interview with TIME magazine, Dorfman announced that she, alongside fellow trans icon Torrey Peters, will be writing and directing a film adaptation I Wish You The Best.
The film is based on the 2019 book of the same name, written by Mason Deaver.
In early September, Dorfman took to Instagram in the hopes of finding a lead for the movie.
The character is named Benjamin Debacker and, according to Dorfman, they are ’17 years old, they are a non-binary teen, a bright, creative, and introverted loner’.

What is I Wish You The Best about?
Torrey Peters describes the film as one that is ‘coming of age and falling in love and figuring out who they are after a tragic incident with their family.’
Other than this, there is no official plot for the film adaptation. However the plot of the book is:
We follow Ben De Backer after they come out as non-binary to their parents. They have been thrown out of their home. Their estranged sister takes them in and Ben has to start at a whole new school, make new friends and find a whole new life. They become friends with Nathan Allan; a relationship which turns into something more.
Who is Tommy Dorfman?
Tommy Dorfman is an actress best known for playing Ryan Shaver in the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why.
In 2017, Dorfman came out as non-binary and then, in July 2022, she came out as a transgender woman, using she/her pronouns exclusively.
She revealed that she has kept her birth name in honour of her mother’s late brother, whom she was named after.
