Going to university for art can be a highly rewarding experience. You can learn new techniques, expand outside your comfort zone, and meet new people who share your love for art. While art can be pursued outside of an academic context, entering into a programme can provide structure and deadlines that many students find useful for their productivity.

If you’re looking at art schools, you likely want to make sure that you’re selecting ones that have a good reputation and can provide you with connections. So, here are some of the top universities for art in the UK.

University Of The Arts, London (UAL)

UAL is made up of 6 colleges and has a student population of about 19,000. You can join the Camberwell College of Arts, Central Saint Martins, Chelsea College of Arts, London College of Communication, London College of Fashion or Wimbledon College of Arts. They offer a range of different courses, from pre-degree, undergraduate, postgraduate and online study in subjects including fashion, design, storytelling, animation, acting, and much more.

Ruskin School Of Art

The Ruskin School Of Art at Oxford University is known for its three year BFA programme, as well as its MFA and DPhil programmes. Courses cover a variety of subject matter, from art history and theory to practice. The education is stuio-based, and students get to enjoy the state of the art Fine Arts building, constructed in 2015, which hosts a wide range of facilities and studios.

Newcastle University

Newcastle University’s School of Arts and Cultures is a renowned institution in the field of art education. It has an emphasis on co-productivity, with both staff and students creating a balance between academics and real life art production, as well as collaborating with industry partners. It is divided into Fine Art, Music, and Media, Culture and Heritage.

Glasgow School Of Art

Wherever you may be in your journey as an artist, Glasgow School Of Art has a course for you.
