We all know Netflix is one of the best places to go for a true crime docuseries and the next to arrive is Sins of our Mother so here’s the true story behind it and the alleged crimes of Lori Vallow.
Netflix’s new series, dropping on the site on September 14, will explore the shocking case from the viewpoint of Lori’s surviving son, Colby. However, where this true crime doc differs from the others Netflix has shocked audiences with, this is still ongoing.

Netflix’s Sins of our Mother
Sins of our Mother is a three-part true crime docuseries that follows the story of Lori Vallow as she became one of the most notorious mothers in America after living for years as a seemingly normal mother.
Lori was accused of killing her fourth husband, her fifth husband’s wife, and her two youngest children, now her surviving child, Colby, has come forward to provide exclusive insight into his family’s backstory as well as their present-tense narrative as Lori faces justice.
The series is produced by Skye Borgman who was behind such Netflix hits as Girl In The Picture, I Just Killed My Dad and Abducted in Plain Sight.
True story behind Sins of our Mother
If it wasn’t a true crime documentary you could easily believe the alleged crimes of Lori Vallow were all fiction and made up for a thriller movie.
Lori was known to friends and family as a devoted mother of three, a loving wife, and a woman of God, but for the past three years everything changed and now Lori is actually currently facing jail time for conspiracy to commit murder and first-degree murder – which she has pleaded ‘not guilty’ to.

Lori is also charged with conspiracy to commit grand theft charges after being accused of conspiring to murder her children Joshua “JJ” Vallow, 7, and Tylee Ryan, 17, to collect their social security benefits.
JJ and Tylee went missing in 2019 and were found dead in June 2020 in Rexburg, Idaho. Tylee was last seen alive at Yellowstone National Park on September 8, 2019.
Her younger brother, J.J., was last seen alive on September 23, 2019, at Rexburg’s Kennedy Elementary School. He was initially reported missing by relatives concerned about not only the children—from whom they had not heard in weeks—but also several other suspicious incidents.
Lori is also accused of killing Tylee’s father, her fourth husband, and the wife of her fifth husband, Chad Daybell. It’s believed that Lori moved to be closer to Daybell, an alleged doomsday cult leader, who she married in November 2019. It was Daybell’s property JJ and Tylee were found buried on.
Lori most recently appeared in Idaho’s Fremont County Court on Tuesday 16 August and it was the first time she had appeared in court since a judge ruled that she is mentally fit to stand trial. Now the couple are due to stand trial in January 2023.
