With the start of the new year come some exciting celebrations and festivities that you will want to mark in your calendar to celebrate at uni. So what events are in your second term at university?

Uni is a time when you have the most amount of freedom, so you can definitely celebrate certain events that you necessarily normally wouldn’t.

At the beginning of a new year, it is quite normal for many to experience the January Blues, but contemplating the exciting things that the new year has to bring can really help if you feel you are slightly struggling.

Below are just a few dates to mark in your calendar for events in the second term at university.

Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year falls on 22 January this year. This is a great time to explore and celebrate a culture other than your own.

Celebrations continue for 15 days, as many families get together and enjoy an abundance of amazing food. Money is given to provide luck and good fortune for the year ahead.

This is now a holiday that is celebrated internationally, as any bad luck from the previous year is driven away by the huge celebrations.

Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day at Uni can be really fun. Many clubs and bars hold themed events where you could potentially meet your match.

However, if you’re happily single, then having a Valentine’s with your friends, such as Galentine’s, or just making a single sub, can be a great reason to get all dressed up.

You can all treat yourselves by going out for dinner, going to a movie, or having a nice drink with friends.

St Patrick’s Day

St Paddy’s day is on 17 March and, although he is the patron saint of Ireland, it is celebrated throughout the whole of the United Kingdom. This is especially celebrated at universities as the green theme will be adopted by many socials.

Celebrations can include festivals and parades. So, make sure to keep a note of this event.

This is also highly celebrated by drinking pints…especially Guinness. So, make sure to head to your local to enjoy this Irish treat.

These are just a few of the huge amount of celebrations you can look forward to this year.
