Snapchat has officially launched its paid subscription plan Snapchat+, which promises to offer ‘exclusive, experimental, and pre-release features’ to its premium subscription users.
During the launch, it was announced that the service costs £3.99 a month, and will offer features that have not been seen before on the platform.
What is Snapchat+?
The paid subscription plan will offer exclusive features such as:
- The ability to see friends’ 24-hour location history on Snap Maps using the new feature ‘Ghost Trail’. This feature will only be available to users that already have their location on.
- Users will be able to pin a number one best friend, by tapping and holding on to the desired friend and selecting ‘Pin as your #1 Best Friend’.
- Subscribers will have the ability to see if users have viewed their stories more than once. Once the story has been posted, users can swipe up to see who has viewed it. An eye emoji (👀) will appear next to users who have watched stories more than once.
- Snapchat+ subscribers will be able to change their app icon to a variety of different options, including a Union Jack, the American flag, a pride flag and many more. This feature is currently only available on iOS, but is soon coming to Android.
- Subscribers will unlock a special ‘Snapchat+ badge’ next to their names.
Where is Snapchat+ available?
The service launched on Wednesday, June 29 and is currently available in the U.S, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. More countries are expected to be added in the near future.
Despite making users pay for the service, subscribers of ‘Snapchat+’ will still experience adverts when browsing the app. The company’s SVP Jacob Andreou told The Verge adverts will not be going anywhere anytime soon, this includes paying users too.
