Karaoke is a go-to social for a lot of societies, and you can learn a lot about people from what songs they choose to sing in front of a room full of people. Whether you pick pop punk or musical theatre, classic disco or modern pop, here’s what your favourite karaoke song means.
Piano Man
This one is a classic and a crowd-pleaser. Anyone who chooses ‘Piano Man’ knows how to entertain a room. If this is your go-to, you’re probably a little quiet when you first meet people. However, once you get to know them, you’re the life of the party. You probably also get along well with everyone’s parents.
…Baby One More Time
If you pick ‘…Baby One More Time’ for karaoke, you’re probably a caring person, and one of the first up. While everyone is too shy (or too sober) to get on stage, you agree to go early to break the seal and get everyone ready and excited to sing. You’re probably a bit nervous to start with. Yet everyone will be cheering along (who doesn’t love a bit of Britney) which will give you the confidence you need.
Defying Gravity
Either you can SING, or you’re so drunk you probably won’t remember this. This is an easy one to attempt but a hard one to master. Either way, you probably love Glee and feel like you’re singing in front of the whole glee club.
Sk8r Boi
You definitely had an emo phase, but you’re far enough out of it that you know that My Chemical Romance or Bring me the Horizon won’t provide the broad appeal you’re looking for (I would know, this is my go-to at karaoke).
Rap God
You’re probably taking this at least a little seriously, and there’s nothing wrong with that! You want to have fun. But you also want to impress people.
Dancing Queen
You probably did theatre at school, and that flair for the dramatics has never left you. You get along with everyone and would probably describe yourself as the mum/dad friend but that doesn’t mean you’re not loads of fun too.
Wonderwall
You’re a little bit indie, but you also want to be liked, so you pick a crowd-pleaser. Even the people who say they don’t like Oasis will be singing along with you by the end, and you’ll love the attention.
I Will Survive
You’re quite outgoing and dramatic, and that’s why everyone loves you. From that first piano note right to the end, you’re not just singing, you’re performing (probably with some pre-planned choreography too).
The Boy is Mine
Either you’re doing this with your bestie, or someone you genuinely don’t like. You’re quite competitive, so this will probably be a dramatic number where you’re both trying to outdo each other.
