After Queen Elizabeth sadly died last week, her funeral is being held on Monday, September 19. Out of respect, many businesses have chosen to close for the day. Below is a list of the supermarkets and shops that are closed for the Queen’s funeral.
The country has gone into a period of national mourning after Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8. It was then announced that her funeral would be held at Westminster Abbey on Monday September 19. King Charles III has made the day a bank holiday, so lots of businesses have made the decision to close for the day.
What Supermarkets Will Be Closed For The Queen’s Funeral?
Out of the many places closed for the Queen’s funeral, supermarkets such as Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Morrisons and M&S are included. The business owners will be closing their stores and halting deliveries for the entire day.
However, some smaller stores will be open from 5:00pm, including some on the route of the funeral procession.
Large Tesco stores will also be closed, with smaller ones and petrol stations open from 5:00pm.
All of Asda’s stores will be open from 5:00pm to allow staff to watch the funeral. They are also suspending deliveries for the day.
Lidl and Aldi will also be closed all of Monday, opening again on Tuesday.
Which Other Shops Will Close For The Queen’s Funeral?
As well as supermarkets, many major stores have made the decision to close. Clothing stores such as Primark, New Look, Next, Zara and Joules will be closing all their stores for the Queen’s funeral.
Homestores such as B&Q, Homebase, Dunelm, and Wilko, will also be closed on Monday, September 19.
Bookstores WH Smith and Waterstones will re-open on Tuesday.
What Will Happen To Hospitality During The Queen’s Funeral?
Chains such as McDonald’s and Costa have confirmed that they will be closed, although Starbucks and other fast-food chains are yet to publicly make a decision.
Lots of pubs will be open for the day so that the public can watch the televised funeral with others. This includes Wetherspoons and the Stonegate Group. However, smaller pubs and restaurants will be making their own decision, so it is better to ring and check.
