Brazilian superstar Anitta has created a frenzy on TikTok with a new viral dance the #AnittaChallenge alongside her new Spanish single Envolver. But what is it and how did it get started?
What is the #AnittaChallenge?
The dance, originating from the song’s music video and Anitta’s live performances, consists of bending over before falling into a push-up position and rotating your hips. Now it may sound easy, but if you give it a go, you’ll find that it is indeed a challenge.
The dance move requires lots of upper body strength, as well as rhythm and flexibility.
‘You’ve got to be strong in your arms though!’ Anitta says in her TikTok tutorial.
Currently, #AnittaChallenge on TikTok has over 627 million views, and the popularity of the challenge has helped Anitta gain a number one on Spotify’s global chart, making her the first Latin woman to achieve this. As well as this, Envolver has gone to number one on this week’s Billboard Global excluding US chart.
Speaking about the creation of the dance to Billboard, Anitta said: ‘I’m like this 24/7, I’m not pretending to be like this and I think that’s part of the song’s success. If I had an actual strategy, it wouldn’t have worked.’
