Unlike Ronald, Grimace isn’t a human with his species never specified. But, in 1999 he features in an episode of The Wacky Adventures of Ronald McDonald, where he lived on Grimace Island with his family.
In 2023, the character is making a comeback in the US to celebrate his birthday. The Grimace Birthday Meal is now available, offering fries with a burger or nuggets and the Grimace Shake.
Is The Grimace Shake In The UK?
No, the birthday meal, including the purple shake is currently exclusive to the US.
However, that doesn’t mean it won’t come across the pond in the future.
Purple coloured to make the birthday boy, the shake is made with vanilla soft-serve ice cream and flavoured with berries to give it its distinctive colour.
The deal hit McDonald’s menus earlier in the month to celebrate Grimace’s birthday, around for a limited time only.
Unfortunately, you can’t get the shake without ordering the meal, which will cost at least $10.
TikTokers Turn Grimace Shake Into A Meme
After heading to stores to try the drink, the Grimace Shake meme is now doing the rounds on TikTok with some hilarious results.
The videos start out with someone trying the drink for the first time, looking like a normal review clip. However, it then ascends into chaos with the person either on the floor or doing something pretty strange with the milkshake over their face.
Apparently, the premise is that Grimace is hunting those who are drinking his shake. That, or it’s turning the consumer mad.
The Grimace Shake hashtag now has almost 130 million views on the social media app, with hundreds if not thousands getting involved in the strange, yet hilarious trend.
Some even go as far to be possessed by the McDonald’s character. However, most just end up covered in the shake in a pretty bad state.
Of course, the whole thing is a joke and the drink doesn’t actually do any of this. It’s just another one of those TikTok things turning something innocent into a hilarious meme.
