Everyone loves a good Netflix comedy special, so to save you from scrolling through the countless shows on the ‘comedy’ page, here is one to watch. Hannah Gadsby’s third Netflix comedy special will be airing very soon, but who are they?
Who Is Hannah Gadsby?
Hannah Gadsby is an Australian comedian and writer. Gadsby entered the Raw Comedy competition in Adelaide in 2006. Upon winning the competition, Gadsby was sent to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, coming in second at the So You Think You’re Funny? competition.
Their first Netflix comedy special in 2017, Nanette , shot Gadsby to fame. In short, it went stratospheric. Nanette is a comedy show, however Gadsby also took a chunk of time to tell their personal story of trauma and abuse, which took audiences by surprise – in the best way.
Nanette won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special as well as a Peabody Award, while also making headlines around the globe and prompting Gadsby’s incredible routine to go viral.
Gadsby’s second Netflix special, Douglas, sees them talk about their autism diagnosis and how neurodiversity should be more welcomed into society. This was another hit for the comedian and almost definitely a reason as to why we are getting to see a third comedy special.
Following their success, Gadsby was a presenter at the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards. They have also appeared on shows such as The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and QI.
Upcoming Netflix Special
Gadsby announced that their newest show will be airing on Netflix on May 9. The tour, titled “Something Special”, was performed by Gadsby over 18 months across the world and finally filmed in the Sydney Opera House.
Gadsby writes that they are “pretty darn chuffed to be able to share this one with y’all.”
