Maxwell Alejandro Frost may only be 25-years-old but this former Uber driver could be the first member of Gen Z in the US Congress.
It looks like the the community organiser will win the Democratic nomination Florida’s 10th congressional district, meaning he could eventually have a great chance to join Congress.
Who is Maxwell Frost?
Politico reports he’s never held office before and has yet to even finish college, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t think he’s the right man for the job.
His age might make him seem like the green candidate on the scene, but Frost has ten years experience in the political world. At the age of only 15 he Frost started protesting gun violence after the deadly mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut in 2012.
He would then go on to work for for March for Our Lives – the group organized by students who survived the deadly mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, – and the ACLU – was group which supports the oting rights for formerly incarcerated citizens – while spending his free time protesting in the streets of Orlando during the 2020 uprising for Black lives.
Frost told Teen Vogue: ‘My first jobs out of high school as an organizer and then as a field director were getting candidates elected, so I have a good amount of experience in organizing people to vote and inspiring people to get involved civically.’
Gen Zers in Congress
Frost is now set to run against Republican Calvin Wimbish in the November election and if he wins he could become the first member of Gen Z to take a place in the US Congress.
Generation Z (Gen Z) is anyone born between the years 1997 and 2010 with ages ranging between 12 and 27. However, minimum age to hold a seat in Congress is 25 – they must also a have been a US citizen for at least seven years and live in the state they represent, though not necessarily the district
Frost – who has since been endorsed by notable progressives such as Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren – might not be the only Gen Zer to join Congress as in New Hampshire, former Trump aide Karoline Leavitt and state Rep. Tim Baxter, are also seeking the GOP nomination in the state’s 1st District, are both Gen Zers.
