We are in the midst of a Tory leadership race. This has contributed to many debates about how the UK can tackle the cost-of-living crisis. The last couple of years have been especially hard on the UK and now, more than ever, the country’s needs must be acknowledged.
The cost-of-living crisis
The UK is currently experiencing a cost-of-living crisis. Put simply, this means that people’s day-to-day expenses are becoming much more costly. Unfortunately this has caused many to cut down, or completely cut out, on essentials to make up for the rise in expenses.
For instance, steep rises in energy bills are expected in the UK over the coming months. Alarmingly, food bank usage is also on the rise.
Many are calling for urgent action to tackle the cost-of-living crisis. Obviously we must not allow the crisis to continue and potentially worsen. Those calling for action include NGOs, MPs and members of the public.
Presently, the responses from the contenders for Tory leadership, Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak, have provided more questions than they have answered. So much for reassurance.
That’s where Enough is Enough comes in.
#EnoughisEnough
The second week of August kicked off with the topic #EnoughisEnough trending on Twitter. Enough is Enough is a campaign whose aim is to fight the cost-of-living crisis. Trade unions and community organisations founded the campaign. Hopefully this is a testament to the potential success of the campaign.
Their five demands are:
- A real pay rise
- Slash energy bills
- End food poverty
- Decent homes for all
- Tax the rich
Furthermore, the new campaign has received a lot of attention on Twitter. Their first tweet has not even been up for a day at the time of writing and they have already amassed over 35 thousand followers.

Assuming the campaign is successful, we should expect to see our future prime minister take the crisis more seriously and avert a worsened situation.
