In 2015, Dave aired a show called Taskmaster. Who could have guessed that, seven years and twelve series later, this show would still be going strong. Now airing in over eight different countries, with two books and even a board game, Taskmaster seems to be going from strength to strength.
What Is Taskmaster?
This show almost defies description. I truly urge you to do a quick YouTube search because I guarantee you will be there for at least two hours, laughing your socks off… and cringing, quite rightly. At its core, the show, hosted by Greg Davies and Alex Horne, sees five comedians and TV personalities presented with ridiculous tasks to be completed in the hopes of winning a golden bust of Greg. Alex poses as the referee while the contestants actually undertake the tasks. But back in the studio, as Greg watches what went on, he has the final say and ultimately hands out points from one to five, based on how well he feels each person did.
Although Greg Davies is the official ‘Taskmaster’ and head of the show, it was actually ‘little Alex Horne’ who created the show and comes up with the all the tasks. In an interview with Channel 4, Alex stated that Greg has ‘headmasterly qualities’ that make him a better fit for the role of ‘Taskmaster’.
Who Will Be In Series 13?
The cast of series 13 was recently released and it has only made people more excited for what’s to come!
Ardal O’Hanlon, Bridget Christie, Chris Ramsey, Judi Love and Sophie Duker are all set to take to the stage and plead their case to the Taskmaster himself, Greg Davies.
When Is Series 13 Out and Where Can I Watch It?
Confirmed in a tweet by right-hand man Alex Horne, Taskmaster series 13 will air on Channel 4, starting April 14 at 9pm.
If one hour a week simply isn’t enough for you, there is a Taskmaster podcast. Hosted by series nine winner Ed Gamble, he brings on special guests (usually past or current contestants) to discuss that week’s episode. All the weird and wonderful things that went on, even sometimes questioning Greg’s point system.
The last few series have had a second airing of the show, usually on Sunday’s that is more family-friendly, with expletives bleeped. So, those of you who wish to watch the silliness with your kids, I have no doubt they will continue with this format for the upcoming series.
