Why The Sheffield University Student Union Is The Best SU In The UK

Imogen Bowlt August 17, 2022

One of the best parts of The University of Sheffield; is the Student Union and this year, it was voted the number one SU in the UK.

The SU was voted number one at the WhatUni Student choice award for the fifth year running and they’re right, you know. Our Student Union is the best. And here is why.

Sheffield University Student Union

First of all the amount of places to eat inside the SU is endless; we have Revolution Coffee shop, the Canteen upstairs, The View (a Vegan and Veggie canteen), New Leaf salad bar and a takeaway area of the main shop (called Our Shop). There’s also a Cornish pasty shop and bubble tea you can enjoy.

The SU is also promoting eco-friendly living. There is a swap shop on the ground floor open at certain hours which is a sustainable way to combat fast fashion on a budget. Visit Our Zero Waste Shop to find planet-friendly products including re-usable and refillable cleaning products, beauty products etc. There is even a vegan-friendly pick-n-mix!

The Zero-waste shop is located within the broader ‘Our Shop’ which is at the centre of the SU. This sells anything from meal deals to gifts and stationery. Nest to this, there is also the University of Sheffield Merch shop where you can buy all of your Uni of Sheff memorabilia.

Bar One is another recommended place to go downstairs in the SU, not just for drinks, but they do some pretty good burgers.

Sheffield SU Clubs

And of course, everyone knows that the club under the SU, The Foundry, have some pretty good club nights, with Tuesday club playing techno, sports societies on Wednesdays at Roar, and Pop Tarts every Saturday. Soul Jam also happens each month on a Thursday which is my personal favourite.

On top of the food, drinks and clubs, the SU is a place to go for help, with a career centre, information and help also on the ground floor. There is even A Santander cashpoint in the SU for convenience.

So to everybody who has made the Sheffield SU the place that it is, thanks for giving Sheffield students such a great community hub to spend time together, enjoy food and a whole lot of club nights.
