Tens of thousands of people from all over the world flock to the Ashdown Forest and Hartfield every year to experience the 100 Acre Wood, play pooh sticks and visit Pooh Corner!
Park at Pooh Car Park, take a stroll in the forest, and keep an eye out for the different character homes on your way to Pooh sticks bridge.
Piglet and Owl house
Both houses in the trees down the walk towards Pooh sticks bridge are a great spot. Piglet’s house had a bag of notebooks and pens by the door. Where people have written messages to the characters about their time in the 100 acre wood.
Pooh Sticks Bridge
The original bridge was built in 1907 and originally called Posingford Bridge. It is suggested that it is the bridge on which Christoper Milne and his father first played the game of Pooh sticks.
The site was so popular that, in 1999, the East Sussex county council made an appeal to Disney as the old wooden bridge had been worn down by an overwhelming number of visitors. The company provided a substantial donation towards the estimated £30,000 needed to replace the bridge.
Partly rebuilt in 1979, the donations from Disney, building firms and members of the public funded its complete reconstruction. The newly built and modernised bridge retained its precursor’s original style.
Bring your own sticks or find some perfect ones that have fallen on the ground, and have a game of Pooh Sticks yourself and stand where Christopher and Pooh stood themselves.
Pooh Corner
Finish your Pooh walk with a tea and lunch in Pooh Corner tea rooms.
With hundreds of items and souvenirs it seems the most natural thing in the world for this shop to be situated in this building, in Hartfield where the famous stories were written by A.A. Milne in the 1920s.
For those who love Winnie the Pooh and his friends, it is the perfect day out.
