Simbiatu ‘Simbi’ Abisola Abiola Ajikawo, also known as Little Simz, has become a pop culture phenomenon with a career that spans rapping, singing and acting. From touring with Gorillaz to being featured in the Venom sequel to winning album of the year and the Mercury Prize with her fourth album Sometimes I Might Be Introvert, her career has followed a spectacular trajectory. With the announcement of a new album on the way, fans have good reason to be excited about what’s next for the artist. It’s also a great excuse to look back at some of her most iconic songs over the years.

Wings

Featured in an Apple commercial, Wings was the song that brought Little Simz fully into the mainstream as a rapper. She described it as a mission statement and that sentiment rings true in the lyrics.

It’s an emotional track, and she discusses the pressures of both her newfound fame as well as her ambitions and goals.

Poison Ivy

Dropping her usual intense delivery in favour of softer and more vulnerable vocals, here Simz shows that she has singing chops. More than just a breakup song, it captures the beauty of a relationship in retrospect, despite its being doomed from the beginning.

Selfish

Selfish is an introspective look at status, being self-made, and the line between self-love and ego.

Introvert

The first track off the album Sometimes I Might Be Introvert, Introvert serves as a sort of thesis statement for the album as a whole. It’s a powerful reckoning with her vulnerability as both an artist and a person, her difficult relationship with success, and the dark times that we live in. Of all Little Simz best songs, this one is an absolute behemoth of a track.

New Music

Little Simz has announced her fifth album, which will be called NO THANK YOU. She made the announcement on Twitter, writing the lines ‘Emotion is energy in motion/honour your truth and feelings/eradicate fear/boundaries are important.’ This message offers an insight into what the album may touch on thematically.

The album does not have a set release date yet, however it is available to be pre-saved. If you pre-save the album, you will receive a notification that it will be added to your library on December 12.

Little Simz continues her current tour until 18 December, before heading to San Francisco for two shows in May of next year.
