Glastonbury Festival is back, and 200,000 festival goers were ready to do it all over again on Saturday. Some of the biggest names in music assembled to put on the best performances of their lives, here is what you may have missed.
Olivia Rodrigo
The 19-year-old brought the energy to the Other Stage on Saturday as she opened with her hit song Brutal. Fans loved every minute as Olivia sang hits such as ‘Drivers Licence’, ‘All I Want’ and a medley consisting of ‘Enough For You’ and ‘1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back’. The singer left fans in the front row in tears as she ripped through her famous heartbreaking songs.
Olivia later brought out surprise guest Lily Allen, as the pair dedicated Allen’s song ‘F*** You’ to the members of the supreme court who recently overturned Roe vs. Wade in the US, which gave women access to safe, legal abortions. ‘We hate you!’ they screamed.
The singer closed her set with an electric performance of her smash hit ‘Good 4 U’, dressed in a purple get up with fish nets.
Haim
Taking to the pyramid stage for their third Glastonbury, the sisters were accompanied by a saxophone player and high energy.
Dressed in matching black ensembles, Alana, Danielle and Este kept things fresh by switching instruments and interacting with the audience frequently throughout their set.
The sisters played songs such as 3am, Summer Girl and Gasoline, which were a hit with the crowd, as fans were on shoulders singing every word.
Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds
Playing a mix of material, Noel Gallagher played the Pyramid Stage on Saturday. His set featured nostalgic renditions of ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’, ‘Stop Crying Your Heart Out’ and ‘Wonderwall’, as well as recent material such as ‘AKA What A Life!’.
His set even included the return of his very peculiar scissors player. The sensation first went viral back in 2017, Noel said in an interview that his scissor player was to troll his brother Liam.
Paul McCartney
This year sets a lot of records for Glastonbury. Just as Billie Eilish is the youngest headliner, Paul McCartney is the oldest to headline of the festival to date, at 80-years-old.
The former Beatles star paused his epic two hour set midway through to check on an audience member in need of assistance. ‘It wasn’t that solo I played?‘ the singer joked.
The singer-songwriter performed hits such as ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’, ‘Get Back’ and ‘Maybe Im Amazed’.
McCartney brought out surprise guest Dave Grohl to perform The Beatles’ song ‘I Saw Her Standing There’, as well as ‘Band On The Run’. Grohl told the crowd he struggled getting to the festival due to flight cancellations.
The singer also surprised the crowd with another guest, Bruce Springsteen. Together the pair performed ‘I Wanna Be Your Man’.
The former Beatle paid tribute to his former band mates throughout his performance, and closed his set with the 1969 classic ‘The End’, with his guest stars.
Sunday’s performances
Glastonbury is still set for one more day of performances, from names such as Kendrick Lamar, Lorde, Diana Ross and Declan McKenna.
