Glastonbury Festival is finally back this weekend after a three-year break due to the COVID pandemic. Eager music fans flocked to Worthy Farm in Somerset to get a glimpse of their favourite artists at one of the biggest festivals in music history.
Who performed on Friday at Glastonbury?
Wolf Alice
After the band’s flight from Los Angeles to Heathrow was cancelled, the group found themselves in quite the mad rush to get to Glastonbury. The group took to Twitter moments after to ask if anybody in the surrounding area would be able to provide transport to the festival.
Wolf Alice made the festival by the skin of their teeth, and rocked the Pyramid Stage for an hour. The band played hits such as ‘Silk’, ‘Don’t Delete The Kisses’ and ‘Bros’. The group were joined on stage by a string quartet as they gave the performance their everything.
Billie Eilish
Billie Eilish set a record, becoming Glastonbury’s youngest headliner to date. The 20-year-old took to the pyramid stage to her hit Bury A Friend. Staying true to her Happier Than Ever tour, the set included songs such as ‘My Strange Addiction’, ‘Bad Guy’ and ‘You Should See Me In A Crown’. Billie got everybody in the crowd screaming along, as she gave every ounce of her energy.

Midway through her performance, Billie used her voice to draw attention to the US Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the 1973 Roe vs Wade case, which made abortion legal.
‘Today is a really, really dark day for women in the US. I’m just going to say that as I cannot bear to think about it any longer in this moment’, the 20-year-old said. Billie then lightened up the mood by asking fans to get everything out of their heads and think about nothing but this moment.
Phoebe Bridgers
‘F*** the Supreme Court’ The singer screams to the crowd, as they chanted the words back. This is Phoebe Bridgers’ first Glastonbury, and the singer took to the John Peel Stage to share her thoughts on the Roe vs Wade abortion ruling, before getting into her 12-song set.
The singer performed fan favourites such as ‘Moon Song’, ‘Chinese Satellite’ and ‘Motion Sickness’. Her set was accompanied by a stunning picture book set which changed pictures throughout each song. Bridgers was also joined by British musician Arlo Parks to sing Graceland Too.
Sam Fender
Sam Fender took to the Pyramid stage in the slot which was once meant for Doja Cat. The singer was set to make his Glastonbury debut in 2019, but had to pull out due to illness – and is now getting his time to shine. The Geordie rocker turned up in a pair of jeans, a checkered shirt and a guitar and played in the sunset.
The singer played an electric set which included songs such as ‘Howdon Aldi Death Queue’, ‘Hypsersonic Missiles’ and ‘Seventeen Going Under’. Fans couldn’t get enough as they knew the words to every song.
Will there be any surprise performances?
Glastonbury usually holds a ‘Secret Slot’ every year. The artist, stage and time are usually announced closer to the set. This year, it is speculated that George Ezra is this year’s surprise performance after a ‘Gold Rush Kid’ sign was spotted around Glastonbury – the name of the singer’s newest album.
If the sign is correct, George will take to the John Peel Stage at 2pm on Sunday, June 26.
