ITV is launching the UK’s first integrated advertising and subscription funded streaming site, ITVX, later this year and here’s all we know about it.
Streaming sites have been around for YEARS and most of the big boys – Netflix, Disney+, and Prime Video – are all subscription funded, however now ITV is offering something new with ITVX.
What Do We Know About ITVX?
ITVX will be viewer-led, which means viewers can either choose to watch free content with adverts, or they can opt to trade up a tier to watch all that content ad-free, along with thousands more bonus hours of boxsets and telly from other partner content, such as BritBox – another streaming subscription funded site.
ITVX will feature ITV’s live channels and free ad-supported streaming channels. For subscribers the site will be premiering exclusive new content on ITVX before putting it on ITV linear some months later. That means ITVX subscribers can get the newest content before everyone else.
New series’ will launch exclusively for the streaming site including the upcoming A Spy Among Friends.
A Spy Among Friends is limited series based on the New York Times best-selling book written by Ben Macintyre, which dramatises the true story of Nicholas Elliott (Damian Lewis) and Kim Philby (Guy Pearce) – two spies and lifelong friends, one of whom was betraying the other all along, at the height of the Cold War.
What About ITV Hub?
ITV already has ITV Hub – the ad-funded streaming site where viewers can watch all their fave shows – and there’s also BritBox which shows a wide-range of ITV shows.
For avid viewers of the hub, fear not it will continue streaming for the time being. However, when ITVX eventually rolls out properly it will replace the classic ITV Hub.
How Much To Subscribe?
ITV hasn’t actually released the price of the subscription service it has said pricing of the subscription tier in ITVX will be announced later this year. Of course, there will be an option to watch free with the ad-funded option.
Subscribers will also have access to BrtiBox.
