Fans of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s best-selling book The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo will be thrilled as it’s finally getting a movie adaption on Netflix.
Netflix dropped the news yesterday, Thursday March 24, the novel would become a film, meaning they’ll be providing that one thing most book fans are eager for – getting to see their favourite characters come to life on screen.
What Is The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo?
The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo is the 2017 novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid. It follows the story of the reclusive Hollywood legend Evelyn Hugo as she chooses an unknown reporter, Monique Grant, to tell her life story.
The synopsis reads: ‘Evelyn recounts her time in the Golden Age of Hollywood, her rise to fame, and her seven marriages – revealing stunning secrets and lies. But through it all one question remains: Why has she chosen Monique for her final confession?’
According to Reid, Evelyn is loosely based in part on actresses Elizabeth Taylor, who was married eight times to seven different men (twice to Richard Burton), and Ava Gardner, who revealed the secrets of her life to a journalist, who published them in Ava Gardner: The Secret Conversations.
The novel has sold over 1 million copies and was nominated for a Goodreads Choice Award for Best Historical Fiction of 2017.
Recently the book spent 54 weeks on the New York Times Bestseller Paperback list, four years after publishing, and has become a TikTok book phenomenon.
What We Know About The Movie Adaption
Details of the film are being kept tightly under wraps but Netflix did reveal the Little Fires Everywhere creator Liz Tigelaar will be the film’s writer and Reid would be taking on the role of executive producer alongside Margaret Chernin.
Netflix will be continuing its creative partnership with Liza Chasin and 3Dot Productions as producers of the film alongside Brad Mendelsohn for Circle of Confusion.
Fans React
Some fans are absolutely thrilled about this upcoming book to movie adaption, however others think Netflix should have made it into a series in order to properly ‘unpack’ all seven husbands of the titular character.
