Daisy Edgar-Jones has completed her book to movie adaptation hattrick as trailer has just dropped for the movie adaptation of Where The Crawdads Sing with Edgar-Jones as the central character.
Sony has released a new trailer for the upcoming thriller and it already looks amazing as it not only features Edgar-Jones, but teases a new song by none other than Taylor Swift.
What is Where The Crawdads Sing?
Where The Crawdads Sing actually started life as a novel, of the same name, by Delia Owens, which was released in 2018.
The book follows two timelines; one about the life of Kya, a young woman who grows up isolated in the marsh of North Carolina from 1952 to 1969 and the second follows the investigation into the apparent murder of Chase Andrews, a local celebrity of Barkley Cove (the fictional town in the novel), who Kya becomes a suspect of killing as they were once involved.
The book became pretty much an instant best-seller – Reese Witherspoon (who will be producing the film) selected it for the ‘Hello Sunshine Book Club’ in September 2018 and for Barnes & Noble’s Best Books of 2018.
It has topped The New York Times Fiction Best Sellers of 2019 and The New York Times Fiction Best Sellers of 2020 for a combined 32 non-consecutive weeks.
From the trailer it seems the film will follow closely to the original novel’s story.
In addition to Edgar-Jones as Kya, the film also stars Harris Dickinson as Kya’s friend Tate and Taylor John Smith as Chase, the murdered ex-lover .
The cast also includes David Strathairn, Garret Dillahunt, Ahna O’Reilly and Michael Hyatt.
Dais Edgar-Jones Scores A Hattrick
This isn’t the 23-year-old’s first rodeo taking on a role in a book to film adaption, she also starred in the Hulu adaptation of the book Normal People – a story which follows the lives of Marianne (played by Edgar-Jones in the series) and Connell who are from different backgrounds but the same small town in Ireland, as they weave in and out of each other’s romantic lives and start to grow up – and The War of the Worlds, the Disney+ adaptation of the H.G Wells classic during which the star plays Emily Gresham.
Swifties Fall For The Trailer
One notable thing about the trailer is the clear sound of Taylor Swift singing in the background. It turns out the 11 times Grammy award winner has written an original song, ‘Carolina’, for the film.
The 32-year-old singer shared the movie trailer on Instagram explain how much of fan she is of the novel and how she wanted to ‘create something haunting and ethereal’ for the film.
She wrote: ‘Where The Crawdads Sing is a book I got absolutely lost in when I read it years ago. As soon as I heard there was a film in the works starring the incredible @daisyedgarjones and produced by the brilliant @reesewitherspoon, I knew I wanted to be a part of it from the musical side.
‘I wrote the song “Carolina” alone and asked my friend @aarondessner to produce it. I wanted to create something haunting and ethereal to match this mesmerizing story. You’ll hear it fully soon, but for now check out the @crawdadsmovie trailer for a clip!’
Fans of the stars, Swities, have taken to Twitter to share their excitement over the prospect Swift will be dropping a new song.
